The Project
The project is designed to train Georgian journalists and students of journalism in economics. The participants gain theoretical and practical knowledge to better understand governmental economic policies. The project includes two 3-day seminars and the publication of a handbook for journalists.
15 active journalists and five students of journalism were selected for the project: The participants of the trainings are from different media including print, TV, radio, and Internet. They represent local, national, and international publications, as well as those published in Georgian and English.
Seminars are interactive and include lectures, discussions, workshops, panels, working groups (games), etc.
The seminars are taught in Georgian, but some lecturers speak English or Russian with Georgian translation.
Seminars are organized by NESG staffers.
Journalists around the country competed for twenty positions by submitting applications
and stories, and interviewing with the NESG team. Their employers signed contracts guaranteeing their full participation.
The project came to the attention of USAID’s Business Climate Reform project office
in Georgia (www.chemonics.com) and a new program was formed.
The project with Chemonics Georgia involves 12 seminars for journalists on economic policies and reforms
in Georgia created over the past few years, and also the results of these reforms.
